2008 Gubernatorial Candidate Cites Fetzer’s Proven Conservative, Grassroots Leadership
Former Senator Fred Smith of Johnston County has endorsed Tom Fetzer for State Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party. Smith, a 2008 Republican candidate for Governor, pledged to work hard to make certain that Fetzer is victorious at the NCGOP State Convention in June.

“I call on all grassroots Republicans to support Tom Fetzer for Republican State Chairman,” Smith said. “Tom Fetzer is the only true conservative choice to lead the NCGOP and I will work closely with him to rebuild our Party from the ground up. Tom will be a great leader for our statewide organization and our conservative ideals.”
Fetzer was elated at the news of Smith’s endorsement. “Senator Fred Smith is a leader who is truly respected and admired by grassroots Republicans across North Carolina, and rightly so,” Fetzer stated. “Senator Smith’s success in business, politics and civic life is indicative of an uncommon work ethic – the same work ethic that carried him to all one hundred counties in his gubernatorial campaign.”
Fetzer continued, “I pledge to Senator Smith and all grassroots Republicans that I will dig in, roll up my sleeves and build a statewide grassroots organization that is unparalleled in the history of the NCGOP. In order to have the opportunity to do that, I need conservative Republicans to join Senator Smith and me in my campaign. I’m asking for the vote of every delegate,” he concluded.
