There are lots of great places to visit in wales so take the opportunity this year
The hamlet of Llanberis has traditionally been favored by climbers and hikers for its vicinity to Snowdon. You may see this mirrored in the amount of out of doors shops in the town ; when you visit Llanberis you will never have an excuse for being ill-equipped for the landscape! But Llanberis is not just for out of doors adventurers ; there’s a cornucopia of things to do and see in Llanberis that are very good fun for everyone. Many people want to take free days out as they can usually have a great time on a small budget.
Here are our top 10 things worth doing in Llanberis. One. Ride a steam train line make a journey on the narrow gauge Llanberis Lake Train line , taking in the hamlet, Dolbadarn Castle, the Padarn Country Park and the shores of Llyn Padarn. Enjoy astounding perspectives of Snowdon, and have a lakeside picnic at Cei Llydan. The vintage steam engines which pull the trains were saved from the close by Dinorwic slate quarries.
Two. Climb some trees At Ropes and Ladders, set in the stunning woodland of Padarn Country Park, you can enjoy an electrifying treetop journey. Climb, leap, swing and zip your way through the trees while enjoying impressive perspectives of Snowdonia’s lakes and mountains. Each group of visitors is accompanied by an instructor, and there is a children’s course OK for kids aged four to eight years. Three. Find out more about Snowdonia’s slate heritage Visit the nation’s Slate Museum in the Victorian workshops of the old Dinorwig Quarry and find out about slate quarrying in Snowdonia. Tour the workshops and buildings, hear the tale of slate, and watch demonstrations of slate-splitting. Visit the old quarrymen’s cottages and find out more about all of the dramas, suffering and community of a quarryman’s life. This is a novel opportunity to find out more about Snowdonia’s commercial heritage, and an interesting day out for everyone. Four. Explore within a mountain Electrical Mountain is the visitor centre of the first Hydro Power Station in Llanberis.
Entry to the visitor centre, with its present shop and cafe, is free ; except for a really reasonable charge you can take a bus tour thru the interior of traditional Elidir Mountain and see the power station’s large pumps and turbines at work. The tour includes an underground film show explaining the building and commissioning of the power station.
