Beer Measurements become an essential part of culture

If you travel through Australia, you must know about the Beer Measurements and their names if you are to order from a bartender without annoying him. They really are a part of drinking culture. A 570ml glass is referred to a ‘Pint’ everywhere and there is also an ‘Imperial Pint’ that varies slightly for its size. Then there is a 450ml glass called a ‘Schooner’ known nearly everywhere except Victorian or Western Australian Pubs. Finally a 285ml glass which is the most popular and known by a dozen names like ‘Half Pint’, ‘Middy’, ‘Pot’, ‘Ten’, and ‘Handle’. A 200ml is only called a glass. Smaller volumes are losing popularity by the 140ml one is known as a ‘Pony’.
