My Harvest America Grocery Price Comparison vs Winco, Walmart & Fred MeyerOn a small order of 28 items (soup, triscuits, juices, etc.), we saved $14 off the lowest prices in town. Our total order was $35.50. I went to Winco, Walmart and Fred Meyer (Kroger) to price the same items. We would have spent $49.30 at Winco, $49.97 at Walmart, and 59.25 at Fred Meyer. That’s a savings of $14 (30%) off the lowest prices in town, and $24 (40%) lower than Fred Meyer where we usually end up shopping most of the time due to convenience. Let me emphasize this was a small order. We were amazed how much we could save by shaving ¢10 – $1.00 on every item. The hard cost savings, not to mention the soft cost savings (our time) really adds up. This is the biggest no-brainer I’ve ever seen.

This past summer was a total immersion for me in the ecosystem way of raising animals and crops. I stayed with my sister at her home in the rural area where she works in group of people who are engaged in biodynamic farming. It was a real eye-opening experience for me to see that the entire cycle of how things are created and used on a farm is such a close knit system. I was impressed with the science of it and the logic, too. It really did make the most sense of any way to use the land, and I was impressed.

My friend is a vegan and she is always making these vegetarian protein shakes. I know that she is more healthy than I am, but I have to say that her shake stink. I couldn’t choke one down if it was the last thing on the planet to drink. Somehow, she even gets her husband and kids to drink them. I am glad that they can all do it because I cannot stand the thought of trying. I would try out her vegan lifestyle, but I love meat too much. I would be wise to alter my lifestyle and try to at least eat healthier, even if it dont’ try to be a vegetarian.

My brother and I were talking the other day about the fact that we never learned how to make homemade bread. Ever since that conversation, I have been craving that type of bread so now I am on the Internet learning how to make banana bread. The problem is there are so many sites to choose from and each one gives different advice. I’ve found some that say the bananas should be yellow and others that say you want them to be turning black. Some say you should mash the bananas while others suggest you cut them into chunks. This is very confusing, but I’m going to figure it out. I love banana bread too much not to.
